All about Anime and Manga

 

Japanese culture is very distinct. Even when it comes to cartoons and animation, they have their own manga or comic books and anime or cartoons. It is said that the first animation that took place in Japan was in 1917. This was about a Samurai who was testing his sword and was defeated in the end.

Tezuka took the steps of Walt Disney with his popular animation. What he did was he simplified the techniques he used so that he could save much time and money in its creation. Today, anime is being created with the use of the hands and the computers.

 

With Japanese anime, all genres are well represented. However, the most popular genre is science fiction. In this genre, the most common are motorcycles, robots, and post-apocalypse metropolises. Manga was also of the same form. It was in the seventies when manga became highly popular and a lot of the comic books were adapted into anime. As the years passed, Tezuka continued to exert his influence. His robots turned into Super Robot which was a work of art of Go Nagai and other known animators. Super Robot became Real Robot which was the masterpiece of Yoshiyuki Tomino.

 

The 1980's ushered in the classic free cartoons. Some of these are the Gundam films and also the Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Anime was widely accepted in mainstream Japan during the 1980's. It was not as popular as Manga though. Akira was a result of the anime and manga fusion. Akira is known as an epic science fiction story whose setting is Japan which was rebuilt after it was destroyed by a catastrophe.

 

Manga has become interesting since it is read largely by women. It's because of this popularity that manga has spread out outside of Japan. Manga that is intended for women is called shojo. The usual topics of this is teenage life and its tribulations such as getting out from the regular clique, going to a new school, being bullied, breaking up with a boyfriend. But there is also shojo that includes female protagonists, female warriors and female samurai warriors. Often they bring inspiration to teenage girls. The very common characteristic of these females is their having big eyes. There are also supernatural elements or beings found in this medium.
